Samar Minallah Khan
Samar Minallah Khan is an anthropologist and a documentary filmmaker with an Mphil in Anthropology and Development from the University of Cambridge, UK. Samar has won several international and national awards for her documentaries and her work on the custom of Swara and Vanni (compensation/child marriages).
Samar, will be sharing a her video 'Allaho' and a montage of her documentaries from KP bringing forth the voices of brave and resilient school girls from Buner, Swat, Mardan etc. With a low female enrollment rate KPK still lags behind in the areas of girl's education due to security and cultural reasons.
Allaho---is a traditional lullaby that is culturally addressed to sons. However, with the help of Pashto and Dari poets, Samar made a lullaby for girls too. “Allaho - a lullaby for you my daughter” breaks away from being male- oriented as it is directed towards the female child. This video was made when girls schools were being targeted in the different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Afghanistan. The aim behind it was to challenge the mindset that girls should not be allowed to get education. This song is being used for awareness-raising purposes by local organizations in the rural areas, schools, and forums in KP and other parts of Pakistan. It has been aired on Pashto television channels and continues to be used for the advocacy at different forums. The message of the poetry, written by Watan Dost, is to celebrate the presence of a girl in the home as a blessing. It goes further to encourage the baby girl to dream big dreams and emphasizes the importance of education to realize those dreams.

Mumkin Kar
A business student and a struggling social entrepreneur, I started my first social venture at age of 19 with my business school, by the name of mumkin kar. I am a social worker at a learning stage and provide social solutions to different ventures throughout Multan. From rehabilitating flood affected widows to re-defining social learning in underprivileged government schools, I will be found working with different youth groups on religious-secular intolerance, compassion drives, education in Baluchistan and anything that favors building our nation. To learn writing is one way a woman can strive to invest in and survive this society, so do I try to write occasionally. Fighting the insecurities of our relations in these times serves as a challenge and that’s where struggle comes in play. I have started my journey to leave back positive behind me, so that my coming generation won’t be there facing the same deprivation and ignorance what I or my generation suffered from. Because I can’t afford opting an easy way out, I can’t afford not paying back to my country.
