The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them different books with lots of stories to read
We celebrated this special day with the bright students of Govt School Junior Model No. 1 Pahariwala in Karachi, where we shared with them the joys of reading and the importance of books in our lives.
The children read different stories from CLF Publications along with matching art activities -character cut outs from the books to be put put together and coloured to reinforce their role in the books . We had lots of fun!
The children read “Tota Khan aur Bakri Ara Ka Safar Nama” and “Laila aur Munni Guriya” written by Director CLF, and Author Rumana Husain

On this World Book Day 2018 nothing better could have been achieved but being with Master Ayub our award winning teacher of World Teachers’ Day in Pakistan, a courageous and generous citizen (firefighter by day and teacher by afternoon) who set up an “Open School” in F 6/2 Islamabad decades ago to share what we can do to help our children learn under any circumstances.
We read passages from the chlldren’s magazine Uran Tashtaree (UT)/flying saucer on Mangho Pir in Karachi -UT is a bi-monthly serial of the Children’s Literature Festival edited by Amra Alam a famous author and learning activist inspiring children’s imagination. We enjoyed the reading and Master Ayub also decided to do these readings every Saturday as children are only focusing on textbooks, homework and exams -but imagination and other book reading gets ignored! This was a great decision indeed.
The teachers and children also signed the Financing for Education petition by ITA’s Right to Education initiative as it was the beginning of the Global Action Week for Education (GAWE ) 2018. Imagine two important days being celebrated with Master Ayub and his Open School students! Loved it ..
