Lahore(Cliff News)Earlier today a gathering of writers, illustrators, partners and organisers of PLF (Pakistan Learning Festival) gathered here today at Children’s Library Complex to brain-storm on how book-reading can be encouraged as a Movement in Pakistan, rather than just an activity confined to festivals. There were also demos of book-reading of two of the 17 books children’s books that will be launched at the Festival in the next two days. The beautifully decorated venue where this baithak took place had truck-art and hand-crafted décor elements that befittingly livened up the room. The two book-readings were of Jasoos Uqaab by author Maqsooda Hussain aided by its illustrator Maria Riaz, and Chutki, by author Obien Mayo aided by illustrator Maryam Shehzadi.Among some interesting concepts that emerged from the brain-storming was the formation of Book Streets, on the same lines as Food Streets that have become so popular in the country. It was also felt that PLF, now into its 91st Festival should be held on fixed dates in the year so that people can mark it on their calendars as events to look forward to.It was evident by the enthusiasm of all those present at the discussion that the love for reading books is still very much alive and that everyone present on the occasion and representing their various organisations, were going to do their utmost to keep this nurturing habit alive. The session gave a taste of what two expect in the coming two days.
